How to Feel Happier, Balanced & At Ease With One Simple Change

Do you feel like your life is a rollercoaster of ups and downs?

Like your emotions are about as stable as a seesaw?

The solution to your woes might not be as complicated as you might think. In fact, there’s a simple way to stabilize your mood, fight off depression and other mental illness, balance your hormones, and help you feel more focused and at ease.

It’s not a magic pill or anything crazy… it’s actually just going back to how humans ate for hundreds of thousands of years. The following are just a few ways sugar has a major impact on your mood and mental wellbeing.

Sugar and Depression

Just by getting rid of sugar from your diet you can experience the peace of mind you long for. Various studies have shown that sugar consumption suppresses the activity of BDNF, a hormone low in people with depression and other mental health problems. In countries with higher rates of depression, there are typically higher levels of sugar consumption too.

Sugar and Memory

Too much sugar makes it harder to remember things and potentially cause permanent damage. Recent Australian trials suggest that sugary drinks appear to have a significant effect on memory in animals. At Macquarie University, Professor Richard Stevenson has done some research on the effect on humans. In a small study published in 2017, his team found that just four days of eating a toasted cheese sandwich plus a bottle of chocolate milk for breakfast significantly reduced memory and learning performance. Only 4 days! That was crazy to me when I read that.

Sugar and Mood Swings

Mood swings and endless ups and downs are caused by a hormonal imbalance, which sugar exacerbates. Insulin is a horomone and it controls how your body handles glucose. When you rely on sugar as your main energy source you become a slave to blood sugar levels. Low blood sugar results in getting "hangry", while high blood sugar makes you feel, well, high on life, but not for long as you crash and the cycle inevitably repeats itself.

When you get off the sugar roller coaster your blood sugar levels stabilize and you start to come back to balance. The little things don’t get to you quite as much and you become more resilient to life’s surprises.
