Can Your Brain Fog, Depression, Skin Rashes & Autoimmune Issues All Be Connected? Yes!

Today’s episode highlights the variety of ways your gut can influence the health of your brain, skin, immune system and almost every other part of your body.

Leaky Gut is a real condition effecting a huge swath of people that probably don’t even realize it. Leaky Gut Syndrome is a condition in which the lining of the small intestine becomes damaged, causing undigested food particles, waste products and bacteria to "leak" through the intestines and into the blood stream. The foreign substances entering the blood cause an autoimmune response in the body including inflammatory and allergic reactions such as migraines, irritable bowel, eczema, chronic fatigue, food allergies, & rheumatoid arthritis just to name a few. It can also lead to nutrient deficiencies & hormone imbalances.

Don’t worry though! You have the power to heal yourself. And I am here to give you the tools to do so.

Functional Medicine 4 Step Approach

  1. REMOVE: Start with cleaning up your diet. Eat whole foods…vegetables, organic meats, fermented foods etc. The goal is to get rid of things that negatively affect the environment of the GI tract such as inflammatory foods, infections, and gastric irritants such as alcohol, caffeine or drugs. Inflammatory foods, including gluten, dairy, corn, soy, eggs, and sugar. GET RID OF GLUTEN TOTALLY! This is not a fad. It is a direct cause of inflammation.

  2. RESTORE: Add back in the essential ingredients for proper digestion and absorption that may have been depleted like digestive enzymes, HCl (hydrochloric acid), & bile acids.

  3. REINOCULATE: Add back in beneficial bacteria to re-establish a healthy balance of good bacteria. Fermented foods and a high quality probiotic accomplish this.

  4. REPAIR: Collagen & L-glutamine help repair the gut lining. “Seal the leaks” or perforations in your gut by healing damaged cells and building new tissue.
