Top 5 Benefits of the Sauna Infrared Style

You may not want to hear this, but sweating is good for you. Sweating is a natural body process that removes bacteria, germs, and other toxins from your body. It helps cleanse your skin (your largest organ) and improves blood circulation.

You don’t have to complete a taxing workout to get sweaty. Infrared saunas are one of my favorite, most relaxing ways to get a therapeutic, cleansing sweat on. Here’s why:

1.     Pain relief:

Infrared sauna heat may be beneficial for people who suffer from muscular and joint pain. The heat relaxes muscles and promotes better blood circulation, helping your muscles feel lighter and less tense.

2.     Supports weight loss:

The infrared heat increases your body temperature, causing you to sweat but also increases your heart rate. This increased heart rate has been compared to that experienced by people in moderate cardiovascular exercise. This overall increase in heat may improve your metabolism and help you burn more calories.

3.     Skin purification & overall detox:

Infrared sauna technology may be beneficial in removing toxins from skin pores and improving circulation. Both of these functions can have a major impact on purifying your skin and making it look clearer, younger, and healthier.

Your skin is your largest detox organ. Yes, even bigger than your liver! Letting the sweat pour out those pores is a great detox pathway that actually gives your liver a rest.

4.     Stress reduction:

Cortisol is a hormone that responds to stress. The more stressed you feel the higher your cortisol gets. Reduced levels of cortisol can result in more relaxed, stress-free feelings. Infrared rays have been shown to decrease this hormone, helping your body relax, and let go of muscular tension and inflammation.

5.     Improved blood circulation:

As infrared heat raises your body temperature, your blood circulation improves. Better-stimulated blood flow can be beneficial to people who suffer from low blood pressure. Relaxed muscle tension may also be helpful in stabilizing blood flow for those with high blood pressure.

My infrared sauna has helped improve my chronic inflammation, boosted my mood, and even helped me recover more quickly from sore muscles. If you have never been in a sauna, it is recommended that you start slowly, with just a 3-4 minute session at 160° to 180° Fahrenheit. Gradually increase the duration of your session; pay attention to how your body reacts and always leave immediately if you begin to feel nauseous or light-headed.

Other things to consider…Make sure you have plenty of water with you and drink it! DO NOT drink alcohol either before or during a sauna session.

People that should avoid the sauna are pregnant women, those with unstable high blood pressure, unstable angina pectoris (chest pain), recent myocardial infarction (heart attack), and severe aortic stenosis. It’s always a good idea to check with your healthcare practitioner before undertaking a new therapy modality.
