How to Kick the Sweet Tooth Habit

Giving up sugar is no easy task. After all, it can be found in almost everything we eat, from breakfast cereals to energy bars and even savory snacks. But if you’re trying to cut down on your sugar intake, starting small can make a big difference. One way to do this is by ditching sugar for just one day. Here’s how you can get started. 


Start Your Day Right

Breakfast is often considered the most important meal of the day, so it’s no surprise that what you eat in the morning can set the tone for the rest of your day. Instead of reaching for sugary cereals or pastries, try some healthier alternatives, like oatmeal with fresh fruit or whole grain toast with peanut butter and banana slices. Not only are these options far less sugary than their counterparts, but they will also help keep you full until lunchtime.

Make Healthy Snack Choices

Snacking is inevitable throughout the day, so plan ahead and make sure you have healthy snacks on hand that won’t derail your progress. Fruits and vegetables are always good go-to options but if you need something more substantial, consider noshing on yogurt with nuts or hummus with celery sticks instead of chips or cookies. If you find yourself craving something sweet, try some dark chocolate as an alternative – it has natural sugars that won’t send your blood sugar levels through the roof as processed white sugar would!

 

Eat Out Smartly

Eating out doesn't have to mean giving up on your goal of ditching sugar for a day, either! When dining out at restaurants, opt for items like grilled chicken or fish without sauces or marinades, which typically contain added sugars. Salads are another great option; just watch out for overly sweet dressings! Finally, don’t forget to stay hydrated – water should be your beverage of choice while dining out, as soda and other sugary drinks will likely undo any progress you made earlier in the day!
