Holiday Survival Guide Part 2: How to do a One-Day Mini Detox

Sometimes all your body needs is a simple one-day detox to rid your mind and body of clutter and replenish your energy. So often, a day off really isn’t a day off; I know that I personally am just as busy on my “days off” as I am when I’m at work! The grind can get exhausting, and we all have those days when we feel like we just want to quit and sleep for a week straight. These are the days when your body is demanding a reset, and a one-day mini detox is a great way to do it. It helps cleanse your body and de-clutter your mind. Here’s what I do when my body needs a mini detox.

Morning:

The best way to kick-start your morning is to drink warm water with lemon. This helps boost your metabolism and hydrate your body. And I find it super comforting first thing in the morning.

Also, try some meditation (do I sound like a broken record yet?). There are many ways to do this. You can sit alone and breathe deeply 10 times. You can also sit and listen to music for a few minutes, or try out some yoga. Just do something that helps relax your nerves and calm the mind. If you don't know where to start, I have a great process on my youtube page. It’s only 10min. You can also try an app like the Calm App to get you going. Set aside just 10 minutes and you will feel a difference.

After meditation, it’s time for breakfast. Because you are resetting your body, you need the first food in it to be natural, whole, and nutritious, like a green smoothie. Smoothies are great for digestive rest, but still loading up on nutrition.

Around mid-morning, have a cup of detox tea and some almonds if you are in need of a snack. Otherwise, try not to eat between meals.

 Afternoon:

A heavy lunch usually leads to an afternoon slump, so skip the heavy and go light. Try a salad or a cup of ginger soup. Take a 15 to 20-minute walk at a vigorous pace and make sure to leave your phone behind.

If you are hungry by mid-afternoon, have a small bowl of berries and, if you have time, try a quick 20-minute power nap or meditation session.

Evening:

If you are able, schedule a massage or a short trip to a sauna, just something to help you decompress. A soothing Epsom salt bath would also be great.

For dinner, keep it simple again, but make sure you are replenishing the energy you used today. Try roasted chicken with Brussel sprouts, or some other kind of lean protein. After dinner, have a cup of chamomile hibiscus tea. This will cleanse your body of toxins, promote good digestion, and prepare you for rest.

Keep your evening quiet and calm. Dim the lights, and skip the TV or digital device. Before bed, write down at least three things you were thankful for throughout the day. Spend a few extra minutes describing your day and any emotions you felt, whether they were frustration and irritation or pride and happiness. Bask in the appreciation for the mini detox you decided to give yourself.

A mini detox always leaves me feeling light, refreshed, and positive. It is a great opportunity for you to give your mind and body a break!

I hope this little burb inspires you to implement a more nurturing practice into your day. Remember, it’s not about being perfect, it’s just about much we can stay in alignment.
